Meet Our Students!

The reason this field trip is so important is because it will directly relate to all student participants. Many of our students come from low-income, minority backgrounds and have never set foot outside of Huntsville, let alone, the Southern United States. They have grown up in poverty-stricken neighborhoods and are on free or reduced lunch plans. The possibility of attending college is unfortunately a matter of "if" rather than a matter of "when." Unlike their peers who live in wealthier parts of town and have a much wider breadth of resources and opportunities at their disposal, my students attend a recognized "failing" school that is in the news too often for its problems rather than its accomplishments. On this field trip, my students will serve as ambassadors between Washington and their communities and spark new dialogues about why education inequality needs to be addressed and how they think it can be done.
